Exploring the Milky Way [motion picture]. 1966.

Follows George Preston, astronomer, as he gathers data for a project that seeks to discover why and how galaxies take different shapes. Preston explains the different types of stars and how their size and distance are determined by their apparent brightness, color, and surface temperature. He also demonstrates how different telescopes and instruments at Lick Observatory are used to coordinate information.
